As a recent transplant from a town that was hopping and popping into the relatively tranquil environment that is Ukiah, CA, I was a bit unnerved by the quietness. As with all moves to a newer place, I went from being flush and busy in my business, to having to start over again with finding what and where my niche will be near where I am living. Being near the huge marketplace that is the San Francisco Bay Area, of course there is life nearby, but I am also finding life to be very rich right here.
As far as subjects to photograph here, there are stunning views of nature, gorgeous wineries, and a very soulful group of people who call this area home and would defend it to the death. These are the things that make a place a home, as well as a wealth of opportunity to keep me busy doing what I love. I’ve spent a good deal of that time, recently, exploring the area, and bringing home things from the garden and roadside to photograph in Still Life. It turns out, there is Still Life for a Ukiah Photographer after all. Ha ha, I apologize for the tongue and cheek humor. I’m looking forward to getting involved in this little town’s vibrant agriculture based marketplace. Getting to know through the unfolding of things, the wineries, gardens, and the forward thinking people who have been here for a very long time.
To share with you today, here is a Still Life study with daffodils from the garden, grapes and lemons from the store, and some roadside daisies from a recent exploration, arranged in differing points of view on this metal compost sifting thingy.
